It all depends on the condition and the area.1982 Honda CR250R Exceptionally Clean Perfect Restoration Project I purchased this bike two years ago with the intention of restoration.

Some companies have really cut back on R parts here in the recent past though, so some prices of modification have started going up.Īs far as price: I have seen decent stock quads go for $1500-2000, mint stock R's go for $3000-8000, nice lightly modded R's go for $1500-2500, and nice full mod R's (powervalve motors, suspension, LSR/Laegar frames, etc) go for $3000-10000. A low-mid pipe, the right porting, the right 310 stroker motor (PV especially), paired w/the right carb, and coupled with good suspension on a light 250r leads to the most enjoyable time anyone has ever had on the trail. I have also ridden 250r's that will out perform any 450 in the trails. For example, I had a Trinity stage 4, V-Force 3's, and a Trinity silencer on my mid-high ported/polished 86 and it was so peaky that you had to have a gripper seat to keep from sliding around under acceleration. As has been stated, it's all about the pipe and motor mods. Anybody I know would not just go out and make a purchase of something like this just because of a response they got on a forum.Ģ50r's can be made great trail quads or they can be made aweful trail quads. So really, your question is an unlikely scenario anyway.

That is why most people test ride their potential purchase before actually making said purchase.

What I believe he should do is try one out for himself and see what he thinks of it. In my honest opinion, to make a decision based on one persons experience would not be very smart in the first place. I told him what I know from my experiences on one. If he is unhappy with his decision then that is not my fault. But you could also argue that is just my opinion. I know enough about the 250r to know it is a great quad for any purpose and it will never fail you even if you treat the thing like total crap. I gave my experience knowing that there would likely be other replies from others such as yourself. Every one is going to have different experiences with any same bike. build one, I did that years ago with a 85 250R.

If you cant find a quad just build it, sometimes its easier to find a whole machine but if you cant. Motors can be built from just cases, with yukon or billet gears, sphinx, puma, ct, psi and a few more big bore and small bore top ends. Everything is still built for them except some minor smaller parts but many members from other sites still make parts for them, plastic is easy from maire, laker, and fullbore frames are still avail from lonestar, leager, jp, walsh and a few others so if you wanted to you can build you from the ground up.

Some common problems are swingarm cracks and some minor frame cracks, but many gusset kits are available and you can upgrade the swinger to a 450R swinger easily and cheaply. Yea sometimes quads are hard to find in certain areas you just have to keep your eyes peeled for them. Mine is a 310 stroker and it rails through the trails, but it still isnt tuned correctly so when it hits.you better be ready for it! lol.

Depending on its state of tune a near stock 250R is perfect for trail riding, and depending on mods done and tune they still continue to be a great trail bike.
